Sketched by designer Janet Mavec from a live-model, this wonderfully-detailed Peace Dove is life-like, it actually seems like it might fly away, if not secured to your neck by the elegantly attached gold chain. Yet, even if unable to take physical flight, this serene, aerial guardian is on a mission: to spread peace and harmony.
You may already be familiar with our beloved Peace Dove—our signature necklace which launched an entire collection, now covered in magazines from to —but it is much more than simply the humble beginnings of the Bird Haven collection; designer Janet Mavec began sketching the design for this Peace Dove—also referred to as the "mourning dove"—the day after 9/11. A bird on a purposeful journey to bring people together through tranquility and love, our Peace Dove should be worn as a symbol of commitment to our stewardship of this planet and to all those within it.
Throw on with your favorite pair of faded jeans or casual shirtdress and open sandals.
The classic Peace Dove is delicate—just right for a casual work dress.
Special note:
The Peace Dove was the first in the Bird Haven collection. Designer Janet Mavec started sketching it the day after 9/11. Initially, she sold the dove in solid gold.
Pablo Picasso was fascinated with them. His lithograph of a dove became a famous symbol of peace in 1949 at the International Peace Congress in Paris. The painter famously said: “I stand for life against death; I stand for peace against war.” Don’t we all?
Picasso’s daughter was named Paloma, which is Spanish for “dove.”
Doves mate for life, and they always lay two eggs. Just two (with the rarest of exceptions).
An unsuspecting mourning dove in the Tri-State area was the model for this particular charm.
